1906: The San Francisco Earthquake
March 16 – May 13, 2006
|
The California earthquake of April 18, 1906 ranks as one
of the most significant earthquakes of all time. At almost
precisely 5:12 a.m. on this catastrophic day, a foreshock
occurred with sufficient force to be felt widely throughout
the San Francisco Bay area. The great earthquake broke loose
some 20 to 25 seconds later, with an epicenter near San
Francisco and was felt from southern Oregon to south of
Los Angeles and inland as far as central Nevada.
From March 16th to May 13th, 2006, the Scott Nichols Gallery
presents a series of vintage photographs exhibiting the
disaster and aftermath of the worst earthquake to ever hit
the United States. Through photographic documentation the
gallery will explore and observe the centennial of this
historical disaster. |
